Dog and Cat Diaries

I just woke up from a very long nap! My god! When I came back from work I was totally pooped after some good hours of sleep deprivation and landed on the bed as soon as I got home. I’m sure I will “hit the hay” again soon, but I received this from a guy in the office and thought it would be funny to share it with the pet lovers out there :-)

HORROR!

Posted: July 30th, 2002 | Author: Bea | Filed under: News, Thoughts | 6 Comments »

A few months ago the world was shocked by the news of a 9-month-old baby girl who had been raped in Africa as part of the cultural belief that having sexual relationships with a virgin cures AIDS. This is unforgivable, horror, madness, total ignorance. The man who did it was sentenced for life just a week ago.

Well, it’s not the first or only time. I just read in a Colombian newspaper and a 1-Week-Old baby girl has been raped again. 1 Week Old! For Christ’s sake!!!! This is like the most horrible thing I’ve heard in a long time…

And you know what is even more horrible: 21.000 cases or rape against minors were reported in South Africa last year. Add that to the cases of rape and violence around the world… God!! Human kind has to go on its knees and ask for forgiveness. The ones who comit the crimes, the ones who allow it, the ones who don’t educate, the ones who decide to ignore all of this… :-(

God, please, just forgive us.

Thai and Laughter

I was kind of reluctant to go, but finally decided a little fun wouldn’t hurt and I joined some fellow bloggers and some montreal ladies for thai food at a really nice restaurant on West Island. We ate deliciously (is that a word?) and they made me laugh a little, while I just stayed quiet… My social skills suck! I’ve been alone for so long and interacting with so few people in real life that I feel I really don’t have much to say to others. That added to the fact that I’ve become extremely shy since I’m in Canada… But it was fun.

Anyway, it was good to meet an American friend. she’s really nice ladies and it’s just amazing how you can finally get together with someone you’ve known online for some time. Frankly speaking, it didn’t come as a surprise how nice she is, but looking at her face is something else.

After supper we went to another friend’s house for drinks and at midnight everyone went home. Thanks to the pal who drove me to the train station. I got home at 1:15 a.m. Walking alone on the street at that hour and knowing nothing will happen to you because you’re in a safe neighborhood is a feeling not everyone can enjoy. But, I’m definitely getting my drivers license… I don’t like to be a charity case of transport… LOL!

Remoras

When in school, we had a name for people who couldn’t come up with their own stuff or were always following others because they couldn’t have an identity of their own. We called them “Remoras“. They were always taking other people’s stuff and ideas and made them appear as their own; like the fish who suck from sharks… Remoras, disgusting, shark-suckers.

Somebody has copied my list of links and even organized it into the same categories I did (of course, with a few changes… but I’m not that dumb, LOL!). This shouldn’t be an issue, but why oh why people can’t just go and get their own stuff! Ugh! REMORA! Give me some valeriana tea, please.

Remembering

The Pope has left Canada and he’s now in Guatemala. What I didn’t know is that he’s actually there for the canonization of Pedro de Betancur; who’s that anyway? Well, he’s the founder of the religious order of my High School (I went to a nuns school). Every year we learned about his kindness and the things he did for poor people, we grew up to love the “Hermanito Pedro” and I know today there is going to be a big party at the Bethlemitas order around the world. It makes me happy :-) I can’t complain about the nuns… sure they were a pain sometimes, but the education they gave us is something to highlight.

This might appear irrelevant for many people, but for me is embracing a symbol of love and the memory of a person I learned about during all my school life (I went to the Sacred Heart school from 1979 to 1991). This canonization is surely deserved because Pedro de Betancur was definitely a man of God and I join my heart to those of the religious community to celebrate it.
