The Power of One

Yesterday when I was organizing and cleaning my purse I found a bunch of pennies and I said to Patrice: “I hate these things, they take a lot of space and you can’t buy much with them”. He laughed and said that I had a comment for every thing. Well, not much? That’s what I thought!

We had a big peanut butter jar and Mail Box Savings Bank Patrice got at Canada Post full of them. So today, while waiting for the clothes to get dry, I decided to do something about all those pennies and packed them up in 50¢ piles, I had bought at the dollar store a while ago. Believe me… I discovered the Power of One (cent)! We had about $25 in there and Patrice has more little packages at his mom’s house. It’s not a lot, I know, but definitely something.

I have one question: Do Americans find a lot of Canadian pennies in their change? Because I piled up around $3 in US 1¢ coins (which by the way have no American value; they are taken as Canadian currency). Not to mention that I found a german coin, what the heck? Anyway, with those $25 I’ll open a savings account or do something else useful.

The Prodigal Daughter

I was born and raised into a very religious family, of Catholic denomination. I grew up seeing my mom praying every day and going to church every Sunday. We were taught to love and respect God and the day of our First Holy Communion was eagerly awaited, not for the party or the gifts, but for the real meaning of the sacrament. We were happy Catholic kids and practiced our faith in a most respectful way, not only to God but to our parents who were happy to see how their religious teachings were making good people of us.

Life bites

Never underestimate the power of a good cry. It does wonders when there is like a huge weight inside your soul and suddenly the only organ of your body that responds is your eyes; then you burst out in tears and let go a little more of that sadness that has been inside you for a couple of years and you know things will be better… someday. Today I had an episode of “I miss my dad”, when listening to a song by Céline Dion, an artist he liked very much. These days hit me hard when I realize he’s dead.

On other news, I had a late but wonderful HoHoHo today. Patrice, again, told me he had a surprise for me; we went out and headed for Bureau en Gros where he told me he was going to buy an agenda. Well, the agenda came with Paint Shop Pro 7 Anniversary Edition! I’m totally overwhelmed… didn’t see it coming (now I can play with Jenn, he he!). He spoils me rotten. Guess who’ll be busy upgrading? And we get a $30 US rebate!

Now I’m going to cuddle with my hubby and watch “The Importance of Being Earnest“. Who can say no to Colin Firth and charming Rupert Everett together? Have a lovely weekend everyone! Maybe a bit of relaxing time will help me to get my intellect back (low biorythm, like I said to Camilo), to see if I can post something with good content… he he!

El cumpleaños de Mar

We may not be very close to each other, but I’ve always had you in my list of great people and every time there is a special occasion in your life I like to let you know that I’m thinking of you. I guess you are already up in BC and I can publish this entry, so have a wonderful birthday and enjoy the company of your loved ones!

F5: New Year’s

I didn’t know the Friday 5 were back, and what I mean is that I actually didn’t know they were gone for a while, ha ha! Anyway, I’m still awake watching a modern version of Cinderella with Kathleen Turner in CBC and it seems the bed won’t call me any time soon… I just hope by the time I’m done with these questions, I’ll feel a little sleepy because I’m working tomorrow (or should I say today?).
