Rainy Busy Monday

I shouldn’t be here. There are tons of things to do at home and I should get started by “yesterday”, if you know what I mean. But I’m so used to open the PC in the morning and post about something that if I don’t follow the routine, I probably won’t be able to accomplish much.

I went to bed kind of late last night preparing some mail, for the Socks Exchange, for Jaya and for the Goomie Swap organized by Mar. I had plans to send everything last week, but you see… Life, she moves in mysterious ways. I was kind of worried for not having sent my stuff, but now I just have to go to post-office and voilà! As for my own mail exchange, I’ll be organizing the groups this week, finally. Sorry it has taken me so long!

At 9:25 a.m. this morning I received my “Complete Idiot’s Guide to Scrapbooking” and right now I can’t sit comfortably to look through its pages, but you bet I’ll be having some fun as soon as the housework is done. I took a peek and the instructions look easy, they even teach you the scrapper terms such as “share the chocolate”, cute! Anyway, I’m excited.

I better get moving. Hope you’re having a great Monday and that it’s not as rainy as in Montreal. I love rain, but I think we’ve had enough over the weekend… Where’s the sunshine?

Turtle-net

Jaya said I can swear (LOL!), so… WTF?? I’m connected to the internet via cable and look at my current speed. This is turtle-net and it’s driving me crazy; imagine I was connected on dial-up! At first I thought it was my computer, but then I went to check and heck… People must be using and abusing Vidéotron. Photos won’t load, pages won’t load, don’t even mention FTP. The internet is not worth it tonight, but well… at least I’m having a nice chat with a good friend.

Update: For Maggie, The Internet Connection Speedometer — Although it’s kind of wacked! When I checked in the morning it gave me a T2 Connection speed (about 3000 Mbps!), no way José! Checking with this alternative meter I got a normal 900 Kbps. Which means, speed has been recovered.

Wedding Budgets

TLC has this new show called “For Better or for Worse” — I was watching in last night and thinking “If all those girls with big wedding stories would hear about my wedding budget, they would laugh at me and find it totally ridiculous”.

It was passed to me from my mom: Keep it simple!. The Wedding Planner on the show said that she didn’t know how she was going to pull it off with ONLY 5.000 dollars and I was laughing. With 5.000 dollars in Colombia you can do wonders in a wedding; in fact I think that was what my uncle spent on my cousin’s weddings at one of the most elegant hotels in Bogota. But anyway, big weddings… Not my thing. I would spend those 5.000 dollars in something much better than feeding a crowd of people, ha ha! And don’t get me started with the issue about a dress you’re going to wear ONCE in your life, because chances are… if you get married again, you would want another dress.

You might call me weird, but that cliché about “every girl dreaming about her wedding day and the dress, and the party and blah blah blah”?? — Sorry, I guess I’m not a girl because it was never important for me? Hello!? Maybe because I grew up looking at the photos of my parents wedding that was as simple as you can imagine, yet my mom was one of the most beautiful brides I’ve ever seen. And my own wedding, well… see it for yourself. I wanted to get married quietly and very early in the church on front of my house and then go and have breakfast with my family and my closest friends, that was it. We ended up having a little family reunion at home and there weren’t more than 40 people in my house.

I don’t know, I guess I’m to down to earth and that spoils the fun. But I’ve never understood and will never understand what is all this fuss about spending thousands on dollars on one single day. It’s a personal position, and I have to admit that sometimes I think “Darn, I should get married again -to Patrice, of course!- and have a fancy wedding, just to see how it goes”. But it’s SO NOT me. I’ve seen marriages from fancy weddings going to the pooper so soon that it gives me creeps to see so much money wasted sometimes.

Hysterical brides — No thank you, not for me. Most of the time weddings become a contest, a matter of fashion. Someone even told me that a girl had told her something like “Well, your parents would want to impress their friends”. WTH?? — Sure, if you want a big wedding, have fun, you probably deserve it. But I just don’t get it.

And for my friends who either had or are planning a big fancy wedding, good luck! I like hearing about your stories and plans. This is just a personal point of view.

Friday Ramblings

I had to decide over posting a rant about how sometimes I just don’t get people at all or simply stick to the day to day facts. The rant would’ve gotten me in trouble, but one of these days I’ll stop being Beatriz and tell the truth to those friends of mine that hurt me with their dismissive attitudes Maybe they just need to be told because they don’t realize it, but I’m too sensitive to deal with what may come. I’m probably like that too, we humans are weird…

Anyway, Patrice is doing well He even went to work! His back and neck are a little stiff, but he slept well. The guys at the office were actually more worried about me: “How is she doing? Is she too nervous?” — That’s too sweet. I’m waiting for him to come back home any minute now and we’ll probably have the AC installed. We have an amazingly nice neighbour who is always trying to help us and she gave us the number of a guy who can install it because the windows here are not AC unit installing friendly.

We’re planning on spending a quiet weekend. They announce some rain, so I’ll be in front of the PC finally putting my links page (portal) together and I’m going to split my blogroll in three categories: “RSS”, “Pingers” and “Non-Pingers”. I’m loving SharpReader a lot these days. I can stay up to date with my favourite blogs more easily. Maybe in a month or so I’ll decide if buying NewzCrawler is a good idea.

You bet I’ll write more later today. Have a good day!
