Monster E-Mail

Ok, I’ve succumbed to curiosity and demanded my dear friend Kathryn to share one of her Gmail invites with me. I’ve jumped in the Gmail wagon (without too much effort, really) and I even had dreams about it last night (loser!), after repeating everywhere in the blogosphere that I was pretty happy with Yahoo! and that I wasn’t going to get any new e-mail accounts. Here’s the thing: I woke up this morning to find that Yahoo! Mail is now offering 100 MB, instead of the original 6. How is that for freaky? I now have 1100+ megas… I guess I can’t complain about space, huh?.

The Book List

I’ve seen this practically everywhere, but I hadn’t taken the time to take a look at the huge list. The deal is, bold the titles you’ve read and add three at the end. I have put the very long list (that is just a sample of what’s going on in the weblogs I’ve seen) in a separate page for layout purposes. I realize there’s still so much to read, this list is only of English books! My life sure won’t be long enough, but I’ll do my best. Oh, the joy of books. [Stolen from Babs]

Adieu to my doggy

Her name was Mafalda, but I called her Maffy. She was brought to me, while I was still in bed, one morning of 1995. She came with a big pink ribbon and was this little furry ball I couldn’t stop loving. She was a fancy girl who didn’t like everyone, but was crazy about the ones she loved. My mom just gave me the news that my adored Maffy passed away on Friday (she had pneumonia) and here I am, crying like a baby, after thinking I could never get attached to a pet, after feeling that I was some sort of cold bitch who didn’t cry for a dog. But now I know better and I don’t want pets anymore, I don’t want to go through this anymore, it hurts very much. Adieu, Maffy. I’ll miss you… so much… I didn’t realize.

Visiting the Favelas

I watched “City of God” last night. The movie is excellent, though crude and violent. There were moments when I couldn’t stop crying and thinking why the human kind is the way it is sometimes. This movie, based on a real story, portraits the lives and misfortunes of the people living in that Rio de Janeiro travel brochures don’t show us. The lives of people at the “favelas“, red spots of poverty, violence, drugs, gangsters, hoods. But also the lives of people who struggle every day to keep living and doing well in life despite their fucked up destiny. If you’re looking for a reality check, I recommend this movie.

Darn Weblog!

You know, sometimes I think I should just forget about weblogging and save myself from the “angoisse” when something gets wonky at BeaLog. The other day I managed to remove my MT database when I clicked the wrong button in my control panel. Tonight I managed to almost give myself another heart attack when I started getting 500 Error messages and I had no idea where they came from. Turns out I had just upgraded my MT-Blacklist plugin after getting a bunch of stupid spam comments and I thought I had done something wrong with it, but nope… I somehow screwed a silly .htaccess file when banning those IPs from accessing my website at all, but everything is cool now. I swear, people like me shouldn’t be allowed to have a website, yikes! Oh well, I figured it out… I’m not that “stoopid”, heh!
