Back to Childhood

Published by Bea under Media

The perfect way to finish a perfect week is getting an energizing foot massage thanks to my hubby who gave me a gift certificate. I had used part of it a couple of months ago to get a facial and last night I went to get my feet energized… Mmmm, so good! Today I’m taking it easy and I decided to go back to childhood, so I went and rented Disney’s Hercules, Disney’s Tarzan and The Wizard of Oz from the local video club. It’s rainy and humid and I’m enjoying the cool weather in my living room while the DVD player works over-time. That’s how my life is going this weekend. What about yours?

Genetic Good-Bye

Published by Bea under News

Francis H. C. Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, the genetic blueprint for life, and the leading molecular biologist of his age, died on Wednesday night in a hospital in San Diego. He was 88. The scientific community wouldn’t be what it is now without his amazing work. Thank you, Dr. Crick.

LTNS, huh?

Published by Bea under Life

That means Long Time, No See. Yeah… I’ve been busy. Well, not exactly busy, but doing stuff and there hasn’t been much motivation to get online or post in the weblog. But here I am, with a little weekly report, after my absolutely fantastic Anniversary Weekend. Thank you for all the nice comments, we did have a great time, dinner at my favorite restaurant, movies, house gifts, personal gifts, etc. I’m not feeling particularly good with words today to give the details, though. 5 years is a nice number, I love my hubby.

This week my bookshelf is 8 books bigger than last week. Yeah, don’t ask me… between gifts and rewards programmes I made at least 4 stops at the bookstore without spending a single dollar. In fact, I just arrived from the West Island, where I ventured to go after a long time and I’m really happy I went, the Chapters in Pointe-Claire has a wonderful selection of books and with the prices they have, you can go absolutely nuts. I just have to find the time to read all the goodies before getting busy with school.

Speaking about school, today I went to pick up the application forms for financial aid and I guess that’s how the rest of the week will go, reading the “big romance” about how to get some money for my studies. I can’t believe than in about a month I’ll be a student again. Kind of exciting, kind of scary, kind of wonderful. Meanwhile, there’s another control MRI to undergo, visit to the Ophtalmo and life goes on. Hope you all are having a great time as well. TTFN.

How deep is your blog?

Published by Bea under Webbies, Weblog

I was just reading one of the weblogs in my blogroll and something caught my attention. The person, a woman, stated that sometimes she wishes she could talk about meaningful stuff without boring the readers, stuff that also could cause controversy. I know how that feels; sometimes I just look at this page and think “Gawd, how boring…”, since I’m not really happy about the usual “I ate a granola bar for breakfast” kind of entry. But I’ve noticed that the more I keep myself from sharing my thoughts online, the more trivial my weblog becomes. Gone are the days of heated discussions about the Middle East crisis because I got tired of pissing people off because that would piss ME off as well. Mature not? I just couldn’t handle all the hate and the stupid reactions I saw sometimes. The problem is, I feel I’m not contributing at all. It will pass, I know…

Meanwhile, I found this Blog Survey at Girl Wonder’s and I thought I could at least share the link to an interesting weblog-related web page.

My Other Mother

Published by Bea under Thoughts

Much has been said and written about mothers in law and most of the stories turn out to be NOT the nicest ones. The Spanish word for Mother in Law, “Suegra”, doesn’t even sound that good and most of my friends talk about their SOs’ mothers in a way where you just can see there is no closeness whatsoever. Me? I’ve been truly blessed, for my mother in law couldn’t be nicer. Sure sometimes she drives me nuts, the same way my husband drives me nuts, the same way the members of my immediate family drive me nuts, but I would be the biggest bitch in the world if I dared to say something bad about her. She is, indeed, a wonderful woman. I’m really lucky to have her in my life.

When I first came to Canada things weren’t that easy because there was a huge cultural gap and despite of her speaking English (a language we had in common because I didn’t speak French), our communication was very concise; I sometimes felt kind of threatened by her self-confidence and I even thought maybe she thought I wasn’t good at anything. But things changed once I learned how to speaking French and I started getting involved in Canada’s society. She’s always been proud of my progress, the new language I acquired, my successful losing weight (she pays for my diet supplements!), my going back to school, my little exploits in whatever there is that I want to do.

Not long ago, when I finally got my Quebec drivers license, I went to “visit” her alone. She was genuinely happy to see me there and since that day we’ve become better friends than we used to be. Gardening, BBQ, sun-tanning (sun-burning for me) on her patio deck, all without Patrice. We don’t need the buffer-boy anymore, we get along and have fun by ourselves and I’m thrilled. She’s my other mother and I love her to pieces. Not to mention her endless generosity. She’s not a “Suegra”, she is my belle-mère, a beautiful mother.

And nope… I’m not looking for her indulgence. She doesn’t even know I wrote this. I’ll just make sure I’ll let her know she’s appreciated.

Feliz Día de la Independencia! Vamos a ver si tenemos otra razón para celebrar cuando Colombia le gane a Argentina en la semi-final de la Copa América.

Terminate Orkut

Published by Bea under Geeky

I haven’t been to Orkut in ages, but today I decided to go and take a look. A few changes here and there (the cookie, for example, good). There’s an option to terminate your account, clever. I’m not going to close it, but it’s good to know that if one day I don’t want to Orkut anymore, I can go and remove myself from it. Gmail has the same thing. Who said there aren’t enough reasons to love Google?
