What on earth!

Someone is playing a bad joke on us. It’s January 10th, temperatures are not supposed to go above 0ºC! They’re announcing 5ºC in the next few days and I’m wondering what the flick is happening. I bet my butt I’m gonna be talking about a horrible -50ºC at the end of the month or something like that (although I checked the 14 day trend and it’s gonna be so “warm”, it scares the bejesus out of me). Global warming… How fun! Ça pas de bon sens!

Let it snow, but not like this!

Oh, I hate creamy snow! You know… That kind of snow that is so hard to walk on because you feel like you’re skating and no matter how good your boots are you feel like they’re not grabbing? I hate it! Mix it with hills and a bruised tailbone (yup, that fall on the ice did something bad to me) and you’re gonna have so much fun… Yeah, right! Vent over, time for grocery shopping. I realized how much of a student I am now after having eggs and toast for lunch, buahaha!

Crossing my fingers…

So, I finally bought a wireless adapter for my PC so I can get on line at the new place. There are plenty of geeks around to make sure I will get hooked to the internet, but still… Let’s hope it’ll work. I’m at school now, checking emails, then I have to go and cruise the city, go to the bank, visit the public library to get my card, buy a few groceries. Lots of things to do before classes start next week; it’s gonna get really busy for me, but I’m feeling happy and optimist… and… I just got my certificate for the student loan/scholarship, w00t!

Update: Wireless, baby! I’m connected from home. Did it all by my little self, no computer geeks needed, and the connection is good enough for me not to get frustrated. Yahee!

New year, new life…

I’m at school now, walked from home. Yeah… A very nice 10 minute walk on the crunchy snow. It’s beautiful out there, all sunny, not a cloud in the sky, perfect day. I walked from home because now I live close to school! I moved in yesterday and I have 10 roommies… w00t! Big place, divided in two apartments. I now share my life with 3 guys from Tunisia, 4 people from France (2 guys and 2 girls), 1 girl from the region and there’s a new one coming next week from Manitoba. They made me feel so welcome, I feel like I belong somewhere, everyone’s really nice, the place is full of computer geeks and we even sat down last night and watched a movie together. I think I’m gonna be just fine.

It sure is different to everything I have lived before, but I know that somehow I’m not going to find myself alone anymore. I have my studies to think about, I have new friends, new projects and the support from the people who love me. The first days of 2006 have found me with less tears than I thought and that’s because I have so many things to think about, I hardly have time to think about the past or feel afraid about the future. I’m living my life day to day, as it comes, with my eyes and my faith put in God.

It’s hard to be away from my family in Colombia, but I’ve found a new one. Feels good to know when someone comes and tells you “We’re a big family and you’re the new member, welcome!”. Yesterday was the first day of the rest of my life, I’m sure of it! Classes start next week and my life will get a whole new sense.

The only bad thing is that I freaking managed to fell on my bum on the stairs walking outside (plenty of ice on them to get someone killed, I tell ya!) and now it hurts to sit down, LMAO!
