Friday’s Feast 136

Appetizer
Who is your favorite news anchor/reporter? Why?
Oh, that has got to be Aaron Brown. I don’t know, I’ve always liked him. He reminds me of my father, but that’s not why I like him. I always found him to be well self-collected and very professional. I was sad to see him leave CNN, and I have a funny story: While running all over Miami Airport, I bumped into someone and when I looked carefully, it was him. He said “Sorry!” and I said “Wow! You’re Aaron Brown! I love you!” — That made my day. I thought he was taller, ha ha ha!

Soup
Name 3 foods that are currently in your freezer.
Frozen cazuela de pollo, fish sticks and pork chops.

Salad
If you were to have the opportunity to name a new town or city, what would you call it? I already did that. I have a beautiful town named Humming in my Animal Crossing Wild World game, LOL! We have lots of apples, a few peaches, a few oranges, a few pears, some coconuts, a nice beach, a river. The mayor’s named Tortimer. Pelly, the lady who works at night at the post office, has a bad attitude. The residents are fun, but want me to compete with them catching bugs all the time. Rosie left us recently. But that’s all gossip.

Main Course
What will most likely be the next book you read?
Saving Fish From Drowning by Amy Tan. Because I recently bought it.

Dessert
What’s the first thing you notice about the opposite gender?
I guess I have to say their eyes and their smile. Oh, and their legs.

Will you come and play with me?

The Sanjaya Conspiracy

This is preposterous. Sanjaya’s still alive on American Idol. I don’t have anything against the kid, but he doesn’t deserve to be there. C’mon! Stephanie’s out? A girl with a nice voice and some talent? It seems there’s this group of bitter people encouraging America to vote for the worst and it looks like it’s working. I’m starting to get irritated.

It’s Finally Over!

I created this image a long time ago to mark the finish line of the longest divorce in the history of the world. OK, I’m exaggerating a little, but it sure was long. I just received confirmation from my lawyer, and “le jugement de divorce” took place in Laval, QC on February 20th, 2007. I’m officially divorced, I’ve been for a whole month! I’ve been waiting for this day for so long, it’s almost anti-climatic. I’m sad to be just another statistic, but well… I’ve moved onto better things!

And that’s all I have to say about that. Next!

6 Years

From Bluetterfly to BeaLog (I miss that domain name!). From BeaLog to Self Satisfied Smirk. Some changes have been on purpose, some by chance, some by generosity. This weblog is 6 years old today. If I go back to March 2001 and read every single entry I’ve posted since then, the only thing I would conclude is that we definitely learn and grow. Sometimes the hard way, but it’s way worth it.

6 years of switching publishing platforms. 6 years on the rollercoaster of life with marriage and divorce. 6 years of friendships. 6 years of telling people way more than they want to know. 6 years of nagging the hell out of humanity with my sometimes closed-minded views. But most of all, 6 years of sharing a little bit of me with the people I care about and having fun with it. Happy bloggiversary to me!

And just for remembrance: My very first entry on a Wednesday like today.

For the Love of Books

Stolen from Karan, who stole it from Babs… :)

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?
Seriously, if I want a book too much, then I just buy whatever. But I usually wait for paperback versions. I like the big ones better than the 7.99 ones.

.com or brick and mortar?
There is nothing better than going to eyeball and smell all those new books. But I’ve been known for buying books online. I like the suggestions section in Amazon.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Errr… Can’t the options be Indigo or Chapters? You see… Canadians, whatever. I haven’t been to a B&N yet, but I liked Borders all right.

Bookmark or dogear?
I HATE dog-ears with all my heart. Bookmarks, please, pretty ones.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?
I’ve never gone through the trouble of actually alphabetizing, since I was always getting new books. But I do keep an alphabetical list in my computer, just for fun.

Keep, throw away, or sell?
I keep almost all my books. Those I don’t want anymore I either give them to someone or donate them to the library. I NEVER throw books away.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
I take it off when I’m reading a book, but I always put it back.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?
I think I answered above.

Short story or novel?
Oh, give me anything interesting. I don’t care!

Collection (short stories by same author) or anthology (short stories by different authors)?
Anthologies, since they let me find new authors.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
I guess HP will do. I have no idea who Lemony Snicket is.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I usually finish a chapter, but that depends on how tired I am.

New or used?
New books smell delicious. But hey, when one goes on a budget, there’s always the flea market downtown and their amazing selection of books.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
Once upon a time.

Buy or Borrow?
These days I’m into borrowing from the library. I have bought about 3-4 books total in the last two years. I mean, for fun. I’ve bought way too many text books.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendation or browse?
All of the above.

Morning reading, afternoon reading or nighttime reading?
Reading is good at any time, baby! As long as I can do it.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
Oh, I don’t like cliffhangers. Period.

Stand-alone or series?
I like both.

Favorite series?
Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. I didn’t have to change Karan’s answer. LOL

Favorite children’s book?
I like Jairo Anibal Niño.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
Oh dear… Cuentos de Miguel Gamboa.

Favorite books read last year?
The Mermaid Chair, by Sue Monk Kidd
The Best American Scientific Writing
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown (Yeah, read it late)

Favorite books of all time?
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupèry
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
The House of the Spritis by Isabel Allende
Love in the Times of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez

Least favorite book you finished last year?
S’il suffisait de t’aimer. — Boring!

What are you reading right now?
The Science of God by Gerald Schroeder.

What are you reading next?
Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan.
