My best friend from college had her baby boy last week. I’m mesmerized… Isn’t he the cutest little thing? I’m so happy for her and her hubby. Congrats, Martha and Gunter!

The Korean hostages that are being killed by the Taliban, are they considered “civilian casualties” in this stupid so-called war against terrorism? How many more dead people do we have to hear about before someone does something? The Taliban making demands that I’m sure are as stupid as the war is, but hello, anybody home?
Of course my views may be scarily simplistic and the issue is not to be solved just like that. But when I read the news in the morning, everything jumped right in front of my eyes. The insanity of it all, the injustice of it all. Did you know that to this day there are 8 MILLION VICTIMS of the war in Iraq? Yes, 8 million people who have had their lives messed up. I wonder, how did things get better over there after March 2003? I seriously don’t see it.

I remember when I spent hours reading the news and trying to put my thoughts down in words in this weblog. I was so full of anger toward those who wanted war. These days I’m just… how can I call it? Resigned. I see the madness of humanity and I just roll my eyes. I think that is sad, I think I should start saying something again.
The more frustrating thing is that there isn’t really anything I can do. Or is there?

OK, after months and months of procrastinating, I finally changed my weblog layout. No elaborated images, just the three columns I wanted. I found the theme at Theme Viewer, changed the colours with the help of my very favourite Color Toy and voilà!

John and I had a REALLY good weekend. It was also well-deserved after all the stress we both have been through in the last week or so. Friday evening we headed to Jeff’s house (Jeff is one of John’s best friends here in KC). He wanted to introduce us to his girlfriend, who is actually his fiancée now because they got engaged last week and they are getting married in January. We had a lot of fun, Jeff made this absolutely delicious BBQ while John and I talked to Susan. The margaritas were very good, too! Around 11:30 we were all really tired, so we decided to come home and crashed in bed as soon as we got here.
Saturday was Simpsons Day. We had been planning to go and see the movie with Mark and Brittany for a while. Mark is one of John’s colleagues, who’s new to the area, and his wife is a really sweet girl. We went to the Cinemark theatre at The Country Club Plaza, and the theatre was almost empty, so it was just cool to be able to talk about whatever we wanted before the movie started. I’m not going to post a review here, but if you want to read it you can find it in my weblog.

After the movie we went for Sushi at Kona Grill, and I have to say it is the best sushi I’ve had in KC. The restaurant is a little bit dark for my taste, but the food is great. The steamed soy beans were new for me and I liked them. I always let John order sushi for both of us because he knows what I like; but he outdid himself this time when he ordered these volcanos, that are basically baked crab, white fish and yamagobo, topped with motoyaki sauce and sriracha eel sauce. Yummy! There are more photos on my Flickr page.
Then I remembered we weren’t far from Balsano’s gelato, a wonderful ice cream place we discovered thanks to
and
a few months ago. Mark and Brittany seemed excited about it, so we didn’t think about it twice. I, however, was disappointed with my orange/mandarin gelato. I guess I wanted to something sweeter, but everyone else liked it a lot.
Since we all are Nintendo lovers, we decided to come home and play some Mario Kart on the Wii (which plays GameCube games). Stopped at K-Mart, bought a couple of new controllers, and invaded the living room until about 1:30 in the morning. It was fun. We ended up going to bed at 3 a.m., which means we woke up really late yesterday.
Sunday was just lazy Sunday. We didn’t do anything, except for watching The Last Mimzy in bed. I was expecting more of it.
Now it’s back to the daily grind, but I hope everyone had a great weekend!

What is there to say about The Simpsons Movie that critics around the world haven’t said? It is HILARIOUS! As in, you start laughing your butt off within the first 30 seconds. And it doesn’t stop, the movie is just THAT good.
Michael says that The Simpsons Movie is basically a super-sized episode, which makes it even more enjoyable because you don’t have to read the the “To be continued.” sign to know what’s going to happen. It is completely fun-packed and the characters are EXACTLY the same as in the TV show, with their antics, their quirks and ALL of them are included in the movie. Well, I didn’t see Groundskeeper Willie, but maybe I just missed him.
They did it, great film!

One of my favourite things to do when I’m bored, or not busy, is looking at the Explore section in Flickr. I can spend endless minutes in there, looking at their interestingness in the last 7 days. Then I just choose the photos that move me the most and add them to my favourites.
I’m amazed by some people’s talent with photography. I do not possess it, I do not crave it (too much). I just enjoy the fact that I have a pair of eyes that allow me to see beauty through someone else’s lens.
