Friday’s Feast 158

It’s Friday’s Feast time.

Who is the easiest person for you to talk to?
It is not easy for me to talk. Seriously, I have trouble trying to put my thoughts in words in a coherent manner; especially when it’s something complicated. I’m more of a passive-aggressive kind of person, so I usually say things the wrong way. But if I have to pick one person that I feel I can tell anything to, that is my mother. When things are so difficult that I feel like exploding, I just have to dial her number. If I don’t say it, she will figure it out. And then I will feel relieved.

Soup
If you could live in any ancient city during the height of the quality of its society and culture, which one would you choose? I think it would be Athens, during the great philosophers time, when it was important to learn about the world around us and our own selves.

Salad
What is the most exciting event you’ve ever witnessed?
I think it was the first Maná concert I went to. I don’t remember feeling as exhilarated ever. My best friends and I all together in the first row, jumping, almost incapable of breathing, singing at the top of our lungs. Yeah, that was good.

Main Course
If you were a celebrity, what would you do for a publicity stunt?
Nothing. I wouldn’t like to be a celebrity, I do not like to be the centre of attention.

Dessert
What do you consider the ideal age to have a first child?
I would say mid 20′s when it comes to biological capacity. But then again after divorce I said there should be a law so people won’t get married before the age of 30 (Yes, I think it is important to be in a stable relationship for children to come). Having a child is not like playing house, one should be mature enough. But what do I know? I don’t have one.

The Nanny Diaries

I wanted to read The Nanny Diaries book as soon as it came out in 2001, but I ended up reading it just last year. I enjoyed it. It’s a very standard story of a modern day heroine in the Manhattan jungle, but it shows you the sterile side of some upper class families. It can be funny, but it also makes you feel a void inside, or at least that was the effect it had on me.

The movie? Well, what can I say? It didn’t exactly suck, but I went to the theatre psychologically prepared to be disappointed. I know no movie is like the book, but I was so curious about this one, I drove John crazy for days because I wanted to see it, and I couldn’t recruit enough “chicks” to go with me. We ended up going with one of his co-workers and his wife, and I was surprised the guys didn’t hate it. But that was because we gave them their action fix afterwards.

I like Scarlett Johansson, but she was too average in this movie. Come to think of it, no character really deserves to be highlighted, not even the kid. But then again, he’s portraying a neglected child whose mother is more worried about living the life in NY than in taking care of him, and whose father is a money-making machine. He was that depressing.

Busy Babysitter

I have a few movies to review and some issues to discuss, but I am getting a taste of what a mother’s life is. I’ve been busy babysitting Caleb full time, and I’m loving it. He is a sweet little boy who makes my days a lot of easier with his presence.

I’ll post something worth reading later. Then again, if you’re a friend, you probably have access to my LiveJournal.

Sherrybaby

The first time I saw Maggie Gyllenhaal was in her role of in Secretary. I think she is brilliant, and Sherrybaby is yet another proof of that. It’s a compelling story about struggle and love, which tagline goes like this: “No one makes it alone.” So true.

While it may seem like the rehab issue has been portrayed in movies again and again, Sherrybaby goes at a slow pace and will shock you from time to time, but at the end you will be left with hope and the conviction that people who really loves us, will help us no matter how messed up we are.

Beautiful, touching. Highly recommended.
