Cookies for a Cause

I was watching CNN this morning, and a news caught my attention: Band of Parents – Their kids have been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that affects children’s nervous system. In most cases it is considered high risk and diagnosed with it’s already metastasized. Neuroblastoma is a orphan disease; pharmaceutical companies are NOT investing as much in research due to its rarity. Funding by the government is limited as well. So parents are trying to get the money on their own… selling cookies!

Maybe it would be a good idea to send a few treats to your loved ones this holiday season.

A Nobel for Gore

I was very pleased to read that Al Gore received the Nobel Prize for his outstanding work about Global Warming. I agree with him, it is time to make peace with the planet.

I cannot believe there are people who still think Global Warming is a myth. We are seeing it everywhere. Whether we are causing it or if it’s a natural process, we certainly are making it worse. Just yesterday I had to read how the snow caps in Colombia are disappearing. Winters are becoming harsher, amphibians populations are declining in the tropics due to climate change. These are just a few of the many consequences. And sorry, but I don’t think it’s going to get better unless we start doing something about it.

Bravo, Al Gore!

Trans-Siberian Awesomeness

When my husband’s boss informed the guys at the office he had purchased a private suite at the brand new Sprint Center, we figured we were to get a few tickets for good shows. I just never expected we were going to get this spoilt! (Spoiled for Americans… Heh!). In less than two months we have attended at least 3 excellent shows. It all started with Garth Brooks, then Blue Man Group, and we caught the 3 p.m. function of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra yesterday. I had NEVER seen such an amazing display of music and lights… It was simply amazing!

TSO is really a treat for the senses. Their rendition of the classics with a touch of modern rock is one of the coolest things I’ve heard in my life. They put on a superb show that keeps you open-mouthed for the almost 3 hours they’re on stage. The engineers that match up music and lights deserve as much credit as the musicians, who have been educated at the top music schools in the country.

Just a couple of days ago I posted that Cirque du Soleil is one of those things everyone should experience. Add TSO to that list. They have a big name, and they honour it with every single note played. I feel lucky!

Something to see: A house in Frisco, TX, with Christmas lights dancing to TSO.

Today’s Friday’s Feast, brought to you by Lexmark.

What was the last game you purchased?
Video game: My Sims, which I have to play more. Table: Pictionary.

Soup
Name something in which you don’t believe.
I don’t believe you get 7 years of bad luck after you break a mirror. Or that it’s bad luck when a black cat walks in front of you. Or that it’s bad to walk under a ladder. I’m not superstitious.

If you could choose a celebrity to be your boss, who would you pick?
Nobody. Celebrities are weird and picky. I’ll save myself. Better: I’ll be THEIR boss! ;-)

Main Course
What was a lesson you had to learn the hard way?
That I’m the only person in control of my life, and I’m responsible for everything that goes on in it.

Dessert
Describe your idea of the perfect relaxation room.
Almost empty. White walls. Big windows. Curly bamboo. Soft oriental music. Sandal wood.
