Good Bye, Heath

heathledgerrip.jpg

Actor Heath Ledger, one of the stars of “Brokeback Mountain, was found dead in bed in a SoHo apartment by his housekeeper Tuesday afternoon in what police are calling a possible drug-related death. He was 28. Sleeping pills were found in the bed around him, police said.

I will never forget the first time I saw him in 10 Things I Hate About You singing on those bleachers. He was charming, he had great talent. Paz en su tumba.

Sticky: February 4th in KC?

No es el dolor físico el que me detiene, ni las cadenas en mi cuello lo que me atormenta, sino la agonía mental, la maldad del malo y la indiferencia del bueno. -Coronel Luis Mendieta (Secuestrado hace 9 años)

I woke up this morning thinking of a way to recruit enough Colombian people (or any people who are against violence) to gather here in Kansas City, on February 4th, to say NO to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (known as FARC). Oscar Morales started a group on Facebook and a website, and now there are people looking forward to protesting against the violent all around the world.

Bogotá, Cali, Bucaramanga, New York, Houston, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, Paris, Madrid, Torino, Hamburg, Munich, Dusseldorf, Miami, London, Buenos Aires, Guatemala City, Chicago, Tel-Aviv, Dubai, San Francisco, State College (PA), Iowa City, Toronto, Calgary, Mexico City, Haya…

There are also some editorial houses joining the cause, as well as Colombian newspapers making publicity about it. We are tired of the FARC, we are tired of Hugo Chávez’s condoning their actions. We are tired… NO MAS FARC!

I hope the list keeps on growing. And I will see what I can do to make Kansas City part of it.

So, please spread the word around, if you’re in Kansas City and you know Colombians. Help us let our voices be heard, help me gather people who want to say NO to violence in Colombia. February 4th, 2008 in KC. Thank you!

Physics for Dummies

Yes, I added the book to my Amazon wish list, along with the workbook. And why? Because Physics is one of my demons, or whatever you want to call it. I always passed my courses, but I dreaded it. It’s like I blocked myself and decided I simply couldn’t do it, or that I didn’t understand it. I think I was wrong, or I simply didn’t give myself the chance to learn Physics. And it was the only class I EVER had to take an extra exam for because I failed.

Then one day I was doing something in the kitchen, thinking about how things happen and I said “Well, it’s just Physics.” – And that’s when I decided to revisit what I learnt in high school and in college. This time, on my terms.

I guess I will start with Easy Physics.

I know, I’m crazy… But that was established a long time ago. :P

Friday’s Feast 176

Today’s Friday’s Feast brought to you by Perrier.

Appetizer
What is your favorite beverage?
Apart from COLD water (still or fizzy), I like OJ a lot.

Soup
Name 3 things that are on your computer desk at home or work.
At this very moment: Digital camera, Netflix envelope and Buddhist Scriptures book.

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how honest do you think you are?
I’m VERY honest. I can’t lie because it’ll show. And I will always tell people what I think of them, or at least I won’t be able to hide the fact that there is something I don’t like.

Main Course
If you could change the name of one city in the world, what would you rename it and why?
I guess I never liked the name Chicoutimi. It sounds funny, and it is such a nice city; it deserves a nicer name. But, I can’t think of a new one right now.

Dessert
What stresses you out? What calms you down?
Keep in mind I suffer from some mild case of ADD and diagnosed anxiety disorder. The question here should be: “What does NOT stress you out?” — As for calming me down: A good book, a relaxing bubble bath, total silence in my house, a walk in a sunny and crispy day. And well, sometimes a good drink.
