Sex and the City

Published by Bea under Media

I never followed Sex and the City on HBO, but when TBS started giving the censored version, I kinda fell in love with it. I never managed to watch it all, but every time there in an episode on I stay and watch. I probably can’t comment on the TV series, but I can definitely say the Sex and the City movie is absolutely fantastic! I am sure the forever fans were satisfied with a film that gives them closure about what happens after Big comes back to Carrie.

The movie is funny and romantic like no other chick flick I’ve seen lately. There are some scenes that will make you jump off your seat (but I won’t say which ones, so the series fan actually go and see it in theaters). I love the fact that it has exactly the same TV cast, and the situations are no different. But this is the post-dating-only side of the story, where relationships are serious and difficult to maintain.

Both my husband and I loved it. Even if one of his co-workers told him “You’re a weirdo!” This is an excellent movie. And I think many, many people agree. Now I want to get the whole collection to watch it, uncensored.

Something to blog about…

Published by Bea under Weblog

Every morning, when I’m taking a shower, I think of something to blog about. I think about all the things I’m going to say, blah… And then I start getting ready for work, and I forget to post. Then I come home and I realize it’s been more than a week. Then I wonder if anyone actually cares… LOL — Anyway, I’ll think of something to post about. I just have to pick something that does not involve religion or the racist attitude of some people I know. That would get me in trouble.

Oh well, David Cook has 7 songs in Billboard 100. That’s the highlight of my week so far. :-P

Made of Honor

When I saw the trailer for Made of Honor, and McDreamy was to play, I knew I wanted to see the movie as soon as it was out in theatres. Knowing that my husband is not a fan of chick-flicks, I was planning to go alone, or kidnap one of my girl friends. And then I read the reviews; no more than 5 stars on IMDB, people saying it was just the male version of My Best Friend’s wedding, etc. I wasn’t too excited about it, and I thought I would just wait for it to be out in DVD. And then I caught up with Grey’s Anatomy on the DVR… Who can resist Patrick Dempsey’s smile? I decided to go see it at Cinemark, and my husband agreed to go with me. We both liked it!

Yes, it’s a huge chick-flick. Yes, the story is not very original. Yes, it makes your think about Julia Roberts trying to stop Dermont Mulroney from marrying Cameron Diaz… But who cares! The funny parts are really funny, the Scottish landscapes are definitely wonderful, and the characters make you want to hug them. It is a light and soft love story that is highly enjoyable. The people who portray each character were chosen perfectly for the role; and Michelle Monaghan is so beautiful! In fact, I liked it so much, I am already planning to make it part of my personal collection.

The Non-Birthday People

Published by Bea under Life, Thoughts

A couple of days ago, my husband posted about something that happened to me at work this week, when I asked a co-worker to sign a birthday card for a girl in the office. Her reply was “I don’t celebrate birthdays.” I know she is a Jehovah’s Witness so I let her be; I am extremely respectful of other people’s beliefs… or the lack of them.

Talking about religion in a public weblog is not easy. There will always be people who become either aggressive, sarcastic or arrogant. I personally cannot deal with that. I keep my beliefs for myself, I share them with those who are open, and refrain from discussing them with someone who will want to attack me or throw the Catholic church priests’ mistakes on my face.

I did, however, have a great conversation with my co-worker today while at lunch. We get along well, she is a very sweet girl, and I know she likes me. Even when I told her “No birthday? Boring!” She knew I was kidding. But today I told her I wanted to know the reason for it. She was surprised that I lived almost 5 years with a Jehovah’s witness when I was in college, and I had no idea about it.

Her explanation came from the Bible, of course. It is about the king of Egypt, and then king Herod wanting to celebrate the dates. She carefully explained to me why, and she said something that made a lot of sense. She mentioned how many people just go and do something because everyone else does, but never stop to think about the root of certain traditions.

Now, I will keep celebrating birthdays; it is fun. But I know better than to judge people based on their beliefs. I like to learn, I like to ask. And I know my co-worker was grateful for my interest. She knows I’m Catholic, she even said that my Colombian flag rosary is cute… hah! As long as we can respect the way other people feel about the idea they have of God, or -again- the lack of it, we all can get along.

Perspective at its best…

Published by Bea under Weblog

If I decide to bitch about something completely banal this week, and curse my destiny because of anything mundane, I will remember the more than 28.000 people who died in Myanmar, the more than 10.000 12.000 people who died in China, and the 23 people who died in MO, OK and GA… All thanks to Mother Nature. And that’s only the beginning of a chain of pain and destruction many people have to go through.

That being said, do NOT complain for stupid shit… seriously.

Now I know why I like my job!

Published by Bea under Life

It keeps me busy, it makes me very tired (especially when doing overtime), but I know exactly why I enjoy my job. It allows me to be as obsessive-compulsive as I want. Seriously. I get to check and re-check and again, I can fix errors that I thoroughly look for, I can tidy things up, I can keep my own system… not to mention the loads of white-out I have to use sometimes, LOL! It’s awesome!

I sound freaky, don’t I? I never said I was perfect. ;-)

Women, be nice to yourselves!

Published by Bea under Life

Just read in El Tiempo that more than half of the Colombian women don’t know what a pap test is for. I blame it on the lack of sexual education, or education in general… it’s sad. Pap tests are extremely annoying, and the “some discomfort” is more like a “get me out of here discomfort.” But they are necessary; they can save you trouble. Mind you, I had my first one much later in life than I was supposed to. I hate it, but I still do it.

So, have you scheduled your yearly pap yet?
