A New Earth

I’m all about self-improvement lately. From reading books to following weblogs, keeping good routines, and even joining Oprah.com to follow the webcasts about Eckhart Tolle’s book “A New Earth - Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose” - Yes, I said Oprah. Yes, I watched the specific show where she mentioned this book, and she had three panelists discussing positive thinking, self-confidence and the law of attraction. It was a godsend, and I thank my husband for making me sit on the couch that night to watch TV (not my favourite thing to do, if I may say).

The classes start on Monday and I’m getting ready to attend the first one. I printed out the first chapter workbook and I have a composition notebook ready to write down notes. I also requested to join a local book club to discuss “A New Earth” and I hope to hear from the leader very soon. I’m excited… So excited I’m actually anxious. I have to calm down. This is not college, this is self-improvement.

My life went from stand-by to full-speed. With a job hunt coming, joining the American work force, my permanent U.S. residence allowing me to do a lot of things I couldn’t “just” as a Canadian, planning to get a new car… The list is endless and it’s also encouraging. And I get to share it with someone who believes in me, my husband.

I’ve been putting myself down for years, thinking (or letting others make me think) that I haven’t reached my full potential. It’s time for me to realize that I have, indeed, done wonderful things in my life, and that this is a new beginning… A new place… A new earth.
