America… Hmmm

I have no intention of making fun of anyone or criticizing, but I just found out a friend of mine joined a Facebook group called “America is not a country.” The main reason for creating the group is to make a statement that America is actually a continent composed by more countries than just Canada, U.S. and Mexico. Not relevant right now, but in the discussion there was a link to this video. I’m shocked.

The problem with the video is that it’s portraying the U.S. people as stupid, when in reality if you ask some of these questions to anyone in the world, you’ll probably get the same kind of answers. Some people either didn’t receive proper education, others didn’t retain all the information they got, some others are busy thinking about other things.

There seems to be this huge misunderstanding that U.S. people are not well-educated. And while I’ve been very harsh with my comments about their government in the past, I have to say otherwise. This country is full of very smart people, who have actually made it what it is. Videos like the one above sure don’t help with the general opinion about the U.S.

But yes, I agree, America IS a continent.

  1. Bea – I got here from links through BlogHer. I have to say, the video made me laugh. They show things like this on TV here in the US all the time. Although the media is responsible for the way it portrays a story, it is sad how uneducated some people are about the events that take place in our world. I don’t think that American people are unintelligent. I think that they are sadly under-educated. Whether it be by choice or due to our school systems.
I am home schooling my kiddos. We study current world events as much as events from history. I don’t want them to be showcased on Jay Leno at any time. :)
    I enjoyed your post. :)
