There is a lot of hoohaa about Flickr‘s showing homemade videos. I got an invitation to join a group to say NO to video, people fearing that it will become another YouTube. I frankly don’t care that much. People can put a lot of crap up, but it is up to me to decide what I look at or not. Now, I’m not being rude, I just don’t see what we can do when giant Yahoo! has already decided to make the move. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t something they came up with just yesterday.

BTW, the feature works just fine. I uploaded the annoying Easter toy video this morning before going to work, after I read the news on Yahoo!

I wonder what is really going on with the people at Six Apart, but big changes are happening all over the place. First they sold LiveJournal to a big Russian company, and now they launched an Open Source version of Movable Type… Meaning it is FREE again. It can be modified, distributed, etc.. etc… for free.

I think it’s wonderful. I was one of those people who became so familiar and comfortable with MT, that I installed every single plugin available without fear of messing things up. I tweaked every template, created my own and installed it for other people… it was fun! Then I stopped blogging, then someone hooked me to WordPress. And while I am almost 100% I’m not going to switch back to MT, I would like to give it a try.

Who knows, after a few years… Anyway, it’s free again. Open Source!

Merriam-Webster’s president, John Morse, said “w00t” was an ideal choice because it blends whimsy and new technology.
