Good in Bed

When I packed my bags to come to Colombia some of the first things I chose to put inside were books. I brought with me four books and said to myself that I was going to be a good girl and not buy any books in the news stands at Miami airport. The truth is I didn’t even make it out of Montreal without surrendering to the temptation of a brand new book; I bought it at the Maison de la Presse stand that was just in front of my departure gate… I know, bad Bea. I had put A Year in Provence in my carry-on bag to read it during the long journey, but I just couldn’t resist that copy of Jennifer Weiner’s Good in Bed I saw.

The minute the plane took off I got captivated by Cannie Shapiro’s story and I didn’t put the book down in three our flight from Montreal. Once in Miami I was happily greeted by Eliz who drove 40 minutes, leaving the comfort of her house and the company of her husband and children to come and meet me. We ate lunch at La Carreta, delicious cuban restaurant, and spent three whole hours talking about everything you can imagine; I had a great time! (Thank you again, Eliz!). Then it was time for me to go to wait for my flight to Colombia and there at the gate I picked the book again and read and read until it was time to board, and once in the plane I sat down comfortably and continued. Johnny English was the in-flight movie, but I decided the story about the plus sized girl from Philadelphia was way more entertaining. I read through little naps (because I was really tired!). I read before going to bed on Monday after I arrived, I read yesterday and I finished the book in less than two days… It’s just wonderful!

Now I have this urge to go back and pick a copy of In Her Shoes, even if the story is not about Cannie anymore, but she’s there. I really liked Jennifer Weiner’s style, I read the interview at the end of the book and I even thought about sending an e-mail to her to tell her I loved the way she showed me how the biggest misconceptions about big people are held by big people themselves. A great read indeed.

  1. Isn’t it good? I loved this book. I read it pretty fast also, well faster than my usual pace. I read In Her Shoes and didn’t like it as much but it was still cute. I can’t wait for her next book. Did you know there’s a Good in Bed tv show coming to HBO?

  2. Hola, Bea! :)

I am a big Jennifer Weiner fan (no pun intended LOL), and I enjoyed both her books immensely. I highly recommend reading In Her Shoes. I was so touched by the story and characters. Immediately upon finishing the book, I emailed the author and went on and on about how much I loved it, and she replied with a very sweet email. Her blog is really wonderful… check it out sometime! :)

Take good care of your pretty self, and enjoy your time away!

  3. I loved that book, and I really liked “In Her Shoes” too. Now I’m inspired to walk away from the computer and go find a good book to read!
