A few months ago the world was shocked by the news of a 9-month-old baby girl who had been raped in Africa as part of the cultural belief that having sexual relationships with a virgin cures AIDS. This is unforgivable, horror, madness, total ignorance. The man who did it was sentenced for life just a week ago.
Well, it’s not the first or only time. I just read in a Colombian newspaper and a 1-Week-Old baby girl has been raped again. 1 Week Old! For Christ’s sake!!!! This is like the most horrible thing I’ve heard in a long time…
And you know what is even more horrible: 21.000 cases or rape against minors were reported in South Africa last year. Add that to the cases of rape and violence around the world… God!! Human kind has to go on its knees and ask for forgiveness. The ones who comit the crimes, the ones who allow it, the ones who don’t educate, the ones who decide to ignore all of this… :-(
God, please, just forgive us.

I’m glad to see you writing about this. I have found many articles about this, and about the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and honestly, I’m so saddened by it, I can’t write about it. But people here need to know what is happening there. I’m sending my prayers right on the heels of yours….

:angry: Rape in South Africa is not just associated with aids. The country is known as the rape capital of the world with a phenominal high rate of rape. The Actress Charlize Theron, originally a South African, made a special documentry for her countries government opposing rape as an accepted fact of life. She was vitually laughed out of the country.
I dont know why anyone would want to rape a woman surely mutual consent is a lot more fun. As for children and babies that just boggles my mind. I will never understand that at all.
The idea that rapeing a virgin will cure aids is not a new notion. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries such was believed to cure venerial diseases. In this day and age though you would think we would have gotten over such ridiculous remedies…you would think.
And these beliefs in the 18th and 19th century, were they around only in South Africa or also in other parts of the world? I never heard about such thing until I came across the outrageous news :-(
Rape, as any other kind of violence, sickens me.
