Now Bea, tell us how you really feel! :laugh: Just kidding! I think the two biggest issues with the voters (not that it applies to Dubya, because he was appointed) here in the U.S. is (1) perspective and (2) short attention span. I personally think that GWB et al. are taking advantage of the overall sense of uneasiness that permeates the U.S. since 9/11. And for many people, it’s very easy to see things in terms of Us vs. Them. So if “They” are coming after “Us” then “We” must hit “Them” hard and remove the threat (whether real or not).

What really bothers me is that on today’s news I heard a report that Al Qaida had constructed a “dirty bomb” that the U.S. troops could not find when they entered Afghanistan. So there’s a dirty bomb somewhere. We also know that what’s left of the Taliban and the Al Qaida operations are somewhere in Pakistan (whose government, btw, has been extremely friendly to islamic militants in Kashmir) close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. And we know that North Korea is developing (or attempting to develop) a nuclear bomb and long-range missiles that could strike the U.S. (and Canada’s) west coast, and that the President of North Korea makes the “evil” Saddam look quite reasonable.

But, who’s the biggest threat?

The guy sitting on top of all the oil, of course!

I still think we(America) has a lot of nerve to try to DICTATE to the world who can have what weapons… correct me, if I’m wrong, but aren’t we the only nation to ever have nuked another country???????

I’m sorry this is so frustrating for you. On the plus side, at least Presidne tBush can’t order Canada to war.

Regarding Beverly’s comment: It’s actually not the US that dictates who can (and connot) have certain types of bombs, it’s the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Yes, frustration. That’s what I feel, not because Canada would be sent to war; it’s just that war totally sucks, especially on Mr. Dubya’s terms :sad: And since you mention that it is not the U.S. who says who can or cannot have, build, stock weapons, then I’ll ask why on earth are they wanting to attack Iraq and asking them to disarm? Tricky!

I completely agree with you. He continually comes across as a spoiled child demanding to have his way, no matter what and with little respect of its possible toll on others. Seems almost desperate for a conflict, and why not – he’s up for re-election in ’04 and history proves that it may indeed actually work to his advantage. Shudder.

Daphne, there is one piece of critical information missing from your post: that both the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction are United Nations agreements. This is what drives me nuts about Dubya! If it is a U.N. agreement, the U.N. should be the vehicle to address any violation. In lieu of that, only a showing of imminent danger to the U.S. (which the Bush administration has not shown) could possibly justify military action in Iraq.

Thanks, Daphne, what I meant was… Why are “we allowed to have them, when we’re the only nation to actually have USED them against another nation?

I hate it when I get migraines! got one yesterday that I woke up with today… and then another came on at about 7:30 this morning, and then at 11, and then again at 3! NOT fair…
