Send the Missiles!

A few days ago, when I was introduced to the genial writing of Pierre Foglia by my husband, I read an article called “Ça fait peur” (about oil and Iraq) where he said “I need a vacation! I will end up biting someone!”. So far, that is what I’ve been saying too every time I read or see a news about the whole Iraq-U.S. conflict.

No more! I want no more of it; I want all the circus to stop, the comedy of the UN inspections to be over, and that the U.S. and the UK launch the stupid war they have planned for February, so we’ll know for once if all this crap about weapons of mass destruction is true or not, if the world will be a better place without Iraq posing threats, and most of all we’ll see if the Iraqi people will be treated like humans when they freed them from the horrible dictator Saddam Hussein. I also want to see if the U.S. will get their vengeance after September 11th and if the pain will be less when the toll of war is being given.

I’m so angry I could spit (or “mordre quelqu’un” like Mr. Foglia), #&?*@%#!! First the war has to take place because Saddam has weapons of mass destruction, but the regime could continue (Colin Powell actually said that a couple of months ago!). Then, if they don’t find the weapons they say the regime has to go. Frankly speaking, there is always a reason for a war (not one related to what started this mess in the first place: Osama), so stop playing peekaboo with the world and bomb the heck out of Iraq if that’s what you want. I want to see at the end of the war if all these ideals of justice and freedom will be achieved. How I wish everyone were hearing Daschle’s speech on how this war doesn’t actually answer anyone’s questions about what happened in 2001.

But you know what makes me even angrier? All this pro-war arrogance I’m seeing in sombe blogs about the U.S. being the belly of the world. I said it once and I’ll say it again: If an American comes with a pro-war position with feelings of despair because they are afraid of terrorism and proud of their nation I will understand. But don’t give me more of this “We’re the best” shit, please. While there are people in the streets of your country dying of hunger, gangs killing each other, rampant drug-addiction, people without medical care and so on… you certainly still have a LOT to do to be the best. So please bend your head and remember that your poop smells too.

I’m sure that when the war in Iraq is over, another one will be looked for. After all, isn’t world domination what they want? I remember when Bush was “selected” that I said to my husband: “Oh Dieu! J’espère que cet homme n’va pas commencer une guerre”. My words were marked, I guess. There is not much I can do about it, so I’ll just accept it and hope for things not to be as horrible as they possibly can.

So, go ahead and start the war. It looks lovely! Did I mention the use of nuclear weapons is on the carpet? If you have a subscription (free) for the L.A. Times, you should read this article.

  1. I couldn’t agree more Beato… honestly, a war is the last option today. But if someone is asking for it – they better get it!

  2. I agree with you. I am ashamed of our president. I did not vote for him, he did not win the popular vote. His “approval” rating is down… I just hope that the world doesn’t judge all United States Citezens by him. Please, pray for peace.

  3. Bea, I agree with you almost 100%. Unlike you, I don’t think this war has anything to do with the Bin Man. This is about who controls the oil. I was reading an article in World Press Review (http://http://www.worldpress.org I think) to the effect that Iraq’s oil reserves are far greater than suspected. Of course, it would be easier for the U.S. to get that oil if Saddam is out and a puppet government is in place.

Sad to say, but I’d be shocked if war is somehow averted.

  4. In my opinion, Bush lost the fight against Bin Laden, remember his famous words, he will catch him dead or alive. Well, the world is waiting George! Where is he? What better way to take our attention away from Bin Laden by focusing the nation’s attention somewhere else and it’s working. The entire news broadcasts are Iraq this, Bush and Saddam that, what about Bin Laden, Afghanistan?

  5. I have just read that the U.S. will declassify the information they supposedly have about the WMD Iraq is hiding from the inspectors. They claim they have collected this information thanks to super-spying and over the top military intelligence.

I wonder: If they have such military intelligence to discover the hidden treasures of Saddam, why don’t they just kill the guy (I mean, he’s the one posing the threats, right? Get rid of Saddam to save the world, they say) without getting the whole world involved in a war?

My husband answered my question saying: “Because they want to impose their view all over the world and have the oil at inexpensive prices”.

It always ends up mixed with the black sticky liquid.

    Just my thoughts…

  6. But the thing is, this Iraq war won’t be any sort of “vengeance”. As someone who went through the horrors of Sept 11th, I’m more horrified at this appointed president of ours using the attacks to wage a war he and his cronies were already plotting before he became president.

  7. Sam, thanks for your comment. What you say is almost what John Le Carré said. Osama Bin Laden never imagined what his attacks were going to generate; sadly he gave an excuse to the Bushies to start the war they had planned for years.

Our questions will never ben answered on how Iraq is related to September 11 (the event that started all this mess) and I know it’s not actually a vengeance itself, but many people are thinking it is. They think a war will make justice for Americans and Iraqis, which is precisely the most dangerous part of it; it makes us blind.

I don’t think life will be better in Iraq after a war and I’m far from being convinced that all this attack will be in the name of Iraqi freedom and their rights. I don’t believe in the “few civilian casualties” thing either, because I read about a massive missile attack that will leave Baghdad as the most deserted place on earth you can imagine.

Please someone explain to me how does that fit in the justice category because I simply cannot understand.
