The Power to Marvel

When organizing stuff around my place yesterday, I found a yo-yo. I immediately started playing with it, and it took me back to my childhood. Yo-yo’s also bring sad memories because on the day my brother died, I learnt a new trick and I wanted to show him, but that never happened.

Anyway, I also remember one day, 4th grade I think, when a guy came to our school to do a promo for Coca-Cola yo-yo’s, and we were “Ooooh ahhh!” with all the cool tricks he did. Of course we thought he was a professional yo-yo player, when he probably was just one of the guys who delivered the Coca-Cola company products to the school store. Funny how kids are, they make everything special, grand, magic. I love their amazing capacity to wonder with whatever comes in front of their eyes.

Somewhere along the road we lose the power to marvel, but the little kid inside us will always come out when memories of our childhood come to visit. It feels so good, we almost feel like crying. Or maybe it’s just me.

  1. You have to have those memories to remember who what makes you the person you are today. Some may be sad or happy, but they are yours and no one can take them from you.
