It was the way for religious figures to explain something they didn't have the answer for at the time. I'm not saying God doesn't exist because I don't know. I also can't deny the existence of aliens. It does come down to one's conviction. Those who attempt to put things in black or white are only fooling themselves and making their lives more rigid.
