The Truth About Facebook Groups
I am one of those people who have joined more than 50 groups on Facebook. Why do I do it, people may wonder… Well, I have come to the conclusion some of us join these groups in order to make a statement. When I join an anti Hugo Chávez group, or an anti-guerrilla group, I’m making my political statement and joining a force of people who want their voices to be heard because there is political and social injustice.
What’s the outcome of it all? I have no idea. What change will it represent? I have no idea. But somehow it feels good when you know you’re not the only one who believes in something. The sense of belonging to the world in a collective train of thought is what we need sometimes to know that we’re definitely not alone.
And while there is always the stupid group with no real purpose, there are hundreds of them with a goal. It is to educate, to create awareness. So, if you see me on Facebook joining a group, it’s probably because I truly believe in what they state.
