The Yo-Yo linkers. How do you understand them? Let me tell you what they are. They move you from the “Daily Reads” category to the “Often Reads” category and then to the “Extra page” in a blink of an eye. Somedays you’re their favorite, some other days you are not. How to understand the behaviour without getting nuts? It remains a mystery.
I can understand the different categories by location, pings, type of blog content, etc…, but I simply don’t get the “Important” and “Less Important” ones; especially when you jump from one to another so often you start feeling dizzy. I guess it’s not the category listing itself, but the fact that my name is “daily loved” some days and “just one of the rest” some other days… ha ha ha! I ask myself: “What did I do this time?”.
Oh yes! I know it’s not about links, it’s not about popularity. But it makes ME wonder. I’m that paranoic. Am I getting too boring? Am I getting too interesting? What moves them to change priorities like changing socks? I have one and only one list of reads (I don’t even put my close friends in a separated list which I could with the multiple Blogrolls), the links are randomly displayed so I can say to people “You all are interesting to me”. Yes, I do care about stuff like that; am I a freak? Maybe… Oh! The Yo-Yo linkers. Quite funny, let me tell you.
This entry could easily fit into the “Stupidities by Bea” category and maybe it is a result of my PMS-ing, even if I’m having a really good hair day. If only the logistics manager stopped doing so much noise with those darn paper boxes!! Ok, now you get it. I’m over-sensitive today. FREAK!
You are a freak ;-) I have NO idea where I am on other people’s link lists… much bigger things to worry about! As for my link list… I change mine every so often according to how much time/interest I have. Some times I have less time, so I scale back and just keep my very favorites. Other times I have more time and I go searching for new blogs or long, lost blogs. It’s really nothing personal, for me, at least.
I’m kind of a yo-yo linker. But it’s mostly for my own organization! I just totally redid my links page because they’re getting out of hand. But I kept my old one, which is blogroll-based so I can still see when people update. For me, it’s never anything personal when I move links around or delete them. Just organization and what I read most often!
I guess some people are thinking how silly I am, ha ha! But seriously, I don’t think there is a single person who hasn’t thought like this at one point in their blogging history. Linking is also a sign of appreciation, IMHO, and if others put you up and down, up and down (I’m remembering the russian model talking in “Head Over Heels”) you may start wondering what is up with the scene.
Again, what a freak I am!
I know what you mean, Bea, and I try not to do that…ever… I’ve taken my bookmarks and put them into a word document so I don’t lose anyone if we have to reformat the drive… did the same with my thought for the day list. Don’t want to lose anyone. ^_^
I don’t think you’re a freak at all, Bea! I feel the same way. I’ve never been comfortable classifying someone as “Sometimes”. It seems dismissive of them in some way. I just have two categories – pingers and non-pingers. I broke them up that way so that the ones that don’t ping for updates don’t languish at the bottom of the list all the time. I didn’t like that either ;)
:thumb: You’re not a freak. I know what you men and I can be a yo-yo linker. Finally, I just decided to get Blogrolling and just alphabetize everyone! Made it easier for me.
This is the main reason I don’t put my “reads” in categories like that. I am always afraid I will hurt someone’s feelings if I move them around or if I remove them from my reads list.
Yer not a freak!! :color:
I have two categories, one for non-group journals, the other for group journals cuz I simply refuse to have anyone ever believe “you like them more than me” … it’s silliness & even with the big ol’ list I do have, I read all of them eiter daily or every other day and I don’t have to agree with what someone says, it’s always about how a person touches my heart and you Bea have done that a million times over!!
*BIG HUGS BEA — you non-freak you!*
Tina  I understand the part about removing links. Sometimes I think “Do I really read this blog? Not really”, so I take it down knowing that the person might or might not get upset. Quite complicated, isn’t it? Always walking on eggshells not to hurt anybody’s feelings.
The reciprocal link issue can go on and on. I personally like to be either in or out, as simply as that; I don’t like to be categorized and I don’t like to be told “you’re less/more important than others”. Since I’m authentic and I only link people I’m actually reading, I expect everyone to do the same and I know it’s silly.
But I see many people actually think like me, so I’m not as weird as I thought. I mean, we can do whatever we want with our sites, but how would we all feel if we were told “Ok, I’ll put you in this second group, because… you know… you’re not as interesting as whoever”.
Anyway, I’m rambling. I don’t even know what I’m saying.
You shouldn’t classify this as stupidity by Bea. You need to point it out occasionally. I had a post about this same thing a week or so ago. I also do like you do in one big random list. And they are ALL special to me. Just like YOU, Bea. Categories may work in some cases, but I prefer to have Blogroller list 10 random links, and I’ve added a link to click for a complete blogroll list below it. [I think I got THAT idea about the seperate complete blogroll link from you, btw.] Take care, friend…
I’ve “sorted” my links into three categories and I don’t generally move them around. None are to make anyone be any less than the other. One is daily reads, one is notified reads, and one is group blogs *I* participate in. There is also no particular order to the blogs either except they are in the order that I bookmarked them LOL
Ooooh this topic has been on my mind soooooooo much lately. This girl linked and un-linked my weight loss blog, and it turns out she had a whole criteria to linking. Like how often the updates where, post content and all that. I just was amazed at how into it she was…
I have been a yo-yo linker in the past. I admit it. But my Favorite Reads haven’t changed in a long time. The new discoveries I keep is just a catch all when I’m clickity-clicking late at night or whatever and don’t want to loose a potencially good read. The only criteria I sometimes use is, I always keep a link to people who comment on my blog. That means they’re interested in what I’m saying, etc!
I’m more your “slow motion” linker! I only get around to updating my links list about every 2 – 3 months (a fact of which I’m frequently ashamed). Being a yo-yo link sounds like far too much hassle.
